by Robin

You can read about my special Mother's Day lunch by the guys over on my fishing blog, Robin's Reports. It was wonderful. This morning, I woke up to new blooms in the garden. I'm so excited about trying to grow squash & zucchinin in the garden this year.

Last year, I tried them in a shadier spot and they molded up before they even got going well. This year, they seem to really enjoy the sun provided by Garden #1's location.

These are zucchini blooms. Deep yellow-orangy blossom with green, rounded leaves.

The crooked-neck squash look very similar to the zuc bloom but the leaves are more pointed, almost maple-tree-like.

I'm guessing these are all male blooms since I don't see any baby fruit beneath the blooms that are needing pollination.

Speaking of which, I have 2 very healthy cucumbers growing. I've pollinated about 4 more, 2 being today. We may have a small cucumber crop coming along.

All the tomato varities have blooms and I should be seeing baby toms on them in another day or two. My fishermen are really getting into the veggie experience. They even tried fried okra the other night because they knew it was from the garden. (Renee, they really needed some hot sauce to flavor them up!)

Happy Gardening.
